On a recent Saturday night, those at Someplace Else, The Park, got a rare treat that came in the form of The Amit Chaudhuri Band — Night Out. The award-winning author’s experimental music is the most critically-acclaimed project, internationally, to emerge out of Kolkata. He is also the only Indian musician to have performed twice at the prestigious London Jazz Festival.
The band played tracks both from the released album and also the one coming up next. Songs like The ‘Layla’ Riff to Todi, Summertime, Freewheeling Jog, Berlin, Motz, All India Radio, On Broadway, One Fine Day, Country Hustle and Rain were widely appreciated. Listeners swayed to the vibrant music, asking for more and more. Requests poured in and the band had to belt out the song, Sympathy for the Devil, twice. And yes, the fun was twice as much.
